When deciding to work form home, the first thing you will have to determine is what you want to produce to sell. It may be a service or it may be a product. Photo greeting cards could be the product that you end up producing. However, whatever you decide on should be based around what potential clients want that you have the skills to produce and should not be built simply around your passion and expertise.

A good way to decide on what to produce, is to go to the free Google keyword tool to see what is being searched on; or to go to the Market place in Clickbank and search for products which are popular or have a high gravity score (30+). Photo greeting cards has a search volume of 27,100 and would therefore be a good choice. Such a niche product that is popular will give you a good idea of what is selling. After all, it is much better to sell what you know other people want than to simply sell something that you are good at producing.

There are three themes that always sell well; sex, babies and animals. Due to the somewhat ‘seedy’ nature of the first, let’s have a look at the other two. You probably will not be able to sell cards made this way through retail outlets, but they can do well at markets or through a website.

Presentation does count with niche photo greeting cards. You will need an envelope and both should be placed in a clear cello bag. This not only protects the card, but gives an added appearance of professionalism. You can get some bags that are self sealing but you may have to choose the size of your card to suit the size of available ‘off the shelf’ cello bags, if you want to save money

My last piece of advice for you is not to fall into the trap of printing very large numbers simply because they work out cheaper per unit. First of all you have to outlay large sums of money up front and secondly, you don’t even know if they will sell! Be prudent and trial you card ideas with a limited edition.
