Book Reviewed: ‘How to Run a Business From Your Kitchen Table’
Having run a business from home for years, I was always disturbed
when I heard the phrase ‘backyard businesses’ and the associated connotation that such a business was less
than good. I therefore found ‘How to run a Business From Your Kitchen Table’ by Barbara Gabogrecan, a breath
of fresh air with common sense prevailing.
This book has had huge success and is at the end of its second edition. It has been sponsored by both Government
and Corporate bodies and enjoyed by thousands of work from home businesses.
This book is now available at a
very special price
What the book covers
The book is divided into two separate parts.
Part 1 The book deals with such mundane matters as planning, self employment, business
structures, technology, risk management, surveys, finance and customer relationships….the ‘must know’ stuff! But
Barbara manages to write it as though it is the most interesting and exciting stuff you will ever read!
Part 2 Barbara discusses a series of marketing tools and describes how to best use them. The
pitfalls of ignoring them and the outcomes of using them correctly are clearly pointed out and elaborated on. You
will be left in not doubt about the importance of marketing to build a successful business and how to implement
some simple and affordable tactics can lead your business along a pathway to success
What I like about the book
I guess I really like the style of writing.
To find a business book that is a ‘friendly chat’ is not easy to find as many business books are written in a
dry, formal language and are meant to instruct and inform (and in the process often intimidate), without any
thought as to the real spirit of the target market – the business operator working from home.
I love Barbara’s ability to write a typically Australian book in the ‘language of the people’. Her writing is
warm, friendly (often humorous), motivating and always easy to understand. Consequently this is a book that you
will not simply scan through then put on your bookshelf and ignore. You will read and no doubt implement many of
the ideas discussed in this book.
This book has become my ‘business bible’ and a treasured business tool; I am sure it will be the same for you
too.
My overall comment: highly recommended Price:
$19
A great book for the perfect
