Why Create Home Based Business Australia?

I started a home based business when I was a sole supporter of two children and carer of an invalid Mum. My teaching profession ceased when the school, where I was Director of Art, closed down during the ‘recession we had to have’. So I was literally forced into making the decision to run a business.

I started a business with my art, initially being hand painted and later, after winning 7 of the Australian Gift of the Year Awards, it was produced under license for product such as umbrellas, bags, scarves etc. I literally started my business on the kitchen table. Eventually all my furniture went until I only had a bed. The rest of the house was taken over with tables for painting with a staff of four.

I was successful, taking a $100,000 order from a large department store within 12 months. Then I furiously began to learn how to run a business! Thank goodness, I instinctively was doing most things right (probably because my Dad had his own business).

I wanted to share my experience with other start up home based businesses so that they had a chance of the same success as I had experienced. I ‘had been there – done that’ – now it was my time to give back to the community. So I founded Home Based Business Australia which was designed as an online home business support organisation, so that I could reach by example to home businesses across Australia.
